Join AWARE Whistler as they host Green Drinks, a monthly get together held on the first Wednesday of every month. Green Drinks brings together like-minded people from all walks of life to talk about anything and everything green – climate change, lichen, creating societal shifts, safeguarding tiny toads, you name it! This event invites open, unstructured discussions, social chats and debates, while connecting people who are passionate about the natural world. Receive free beer and appetizers if you make a donation to Whistler’s environmental charity, AWARE. Green Drinks is only possible thanks to the ongoing support of Ziptrek EcoTours and Blacks Pub.

Topics include how to recognize constellations, free apps and software that can help you learn the night sky, how to starhop to find many of the Messier Deep Sky objects, different types of telescopes and more.

The AWARE Kid’s Nature Club has been educating local and visiting youth about all things environmental since 2007. These free sessions are focused on encouraging learning through fun interactive activities and are open to all, but are mainly intended for kids aged 6-11. All children must be accompanied by a parent. Past topics have included building solar powered cars, painting birdhouses and learning about local bird songs, turning rubbish into art, being bear smart and learning about creepy crawlies.

Writers Adventure Camp at The Point Artist-Run Centre on beautiful Alta Lake provides a unique four-day immersive experience for emerging writers. You will attend workshops with award-winning professionals in your chosen genre while cross-fertilizing your creative output with exposure to other genres and artistic disciplines. On Thursday, June 1 at 7:30 PM CBC Canada Reads winner Carmen Aguirre and 2016 Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize winner Yasuko Thanh will entertain guest with a free public reading at the Whistler Public Library. Also open to the public on Friday, June 2 at 6:00 PM, The Point Artist-Run Centre will be hosting a cabaret-style show. Adult tickets are available for $15 for the Cabaret show only and $30 with dinner and tickets for children 12 years of age and under are available for $10 for the Cabaret show only and $20 with dinner.
